Primary Education Centrers
Sambhali Trust’s Primary Education Center first opened in Setrawa, a small desert village located in the harsh environment of the semi-arid Thar desert. The Setrawa Center was created to teach Hindi, English, and mathematics to young children who did not have access to an education so they can be prepared to attend local schools. The center also incorporates educational workshops, medical check-ups, and washing facilities for children in rural hamlets with no water supply. The program was later expanded to include students who may have been attending school but needed additional services to thrive as learners.
Based on the success of this program, nine other Primary Education Centers were established in Jodhpur and Jaisalmer, transforming the space used for Empowerment Centers in the morning into Primary Education Centers in the afternoon. Many of the children have mothers who attend Sambhali Trust’s Empowerment Centers. In other cases, the Sambhali Trust staff have reached out to local neighborhoods to locate children who were not in school or not attending regularly. Through the centers, 250 children have gained the skills they need to enter school, ongoing support to succeed, and a joy for learning.
